Wesdome Gold Mines has had over 30 years of continuous gold mining operations in Canada.  The Company is 100% Canadian focused with a pipeline of projects in various stages of development.  The Company’s strategy is to build Canada’s next intermediate gold producer, producing 200,000+ ounces from two mines in Ontario and Quebec.  The Eagle River Complex in Wawa, Ontario is currently producing gold at the Eagle River Underground Mine.  Wesdome started production at the Kiena Complex in Val d’Or, Quebec in December 2022. The Company trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “WDO”.
 

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Eagle River Mill Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor, the Instrumentation Technician will assist with diagnosing, troubleshooting, and configuring Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), Servo Drives, Variable Frequency Drives, Sensors, Actuators, Instrumentation, Industrial Control Systems, Industrial Networks, and Electrical Equipment to ensure reliable operations. The Instrumentation Technician will also work closely with the Electrical and Instrumentation Technologist to install, commission, and startup small projects as required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountabilities and duties will include but not limited to the following:

  • Calibrate process instruments, documenting results, maintaining records for regulatory requirements and maintain database.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting, repairs, or modifications in accordance with manufactures specifications and documentation on mill and mine facilities and equipment.
  • Observe and test the plant equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using meters/analyzers, programming stations and other testing devices; and replace faulty components to keep equipment operational, drives standardization of process control elements to maintain consistency.
  • Ensure compliance to codes and standards for Arc Flash/Shock hazard safety, confined space entry, work at height, Lock-out-tag-out, Line Break Permit, hazardous materials, hand tool safe use, etc. and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Define preventive maintenance and calibration schedules and procedures in maintenance software, and executes the schedules, assess plans with operators, supervisors, managers, OEMs and redefine frequencies to improve overall equipment performance.
  • Maintain records and ensure inventory in made available for upcoming maintenance and calibration activities, and supports spare parts store setup & management activities.
  • Maintain drawings, instructional manuals, program backups, certificates, procedures and make revisions as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identify & execute improvement projects, reliability centered maintenance programs, and inculcate problem-solving mindset on the shop floor.
  • Obtain complete operation and maintenance knowledge of plant's processing.
  • Supervise contractors’ work and safety during new installation and routine plant operations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary college diploma as an Instrumentation Engineering Technician
  • Licensed Instrumentation Technician/Technician C Tech or CET.
  • Minimum 3 years of instrumentation experience with automated mining/milling facilities and equipment.
  • Proficient in using computers and associated software programs for automation such as Allan Bradley’s ControlLogix/Studio 5000, and OPC servers.
  • Proficient in reading Instrumentation diagrams, one-line diagrams, schematics, PLC & HMI programs, calibration curves, and conducting I/O checks.
  • Must have proven experience with Allan Bradley PLC’s, HMIs and Industrial networks.
  • Ability to work with DeltaV DCS to troubleshoot control issues.
  • Basic networking abilities and knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform (considered an asset).
  • Ability to stand and work on multiple levels, such as catwalks, ladders, etc. and ability work in extreme temperatures environment/confined space/narrow spaces.
  • Able to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to visually identify defective parts and perform a replacement.

Location and Logistics of the Role

  • This position is located at our Eagle River Mine location near Wawa, ON;
  • In this role, you will work a 7 days in / 7 days out schedule and therefore you will have meals and accommodations provided at our camp;
