COMPASSION SOCIETY OF HALTON (CSH) seeks applications from 2 community-minded Halton Region residents eager to join our Board of Directors, with specific skills and experience respectively in Human Resources Management and Marketing.
Now operating from premises in Burlington (Fairview/Brant), CSH, a registered charity, has just marked its 25th Anniversary of unique service to Halton’s needy. We provide food, clothing, and support (e.g., referrals to medical, legal, and other services), all of which have experienced dramatic growth in demand over the past 12 months. We believe the recruitment of 2 New Directors with HR and Marketing skills will be key to our ongoing ability to serve the public and to help shape the future of CSH.
In addition to providing guidance in the latter two fields, these Board members need to meet the following general expectations:
• Noting that these are unpaid, volunteer positions; Board members actively participate in scheduled Board meetings, once a month (10 per year, plus Annual General Meeting) at CSH’s premises, usually in person but occasionally virtually.
• This typically entails 5-7 hours monthly, including reading and understanding all agenda and materials in advance of meetings, the meeting, and ancillary committee meeting time.
• Participation in such an ancillary committee could, for example, involve general governance, finance, or fundraising.
• Promote and support CSH programs, events, particularly fundraisers.
• Provide oversight on organizational policies, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Participate in recruiting efforts for new Board members or volunteers to enhance CSH’s service capacity.
• Serve as active advocate and ambassador for CSH and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for CSH to advance its mission.
• Leverage connections, networks, and resources.
• Help identify personal connections that can benefit CSH’s fundraising and reputational standing and influence public policy
