Bringing needed change to Ottawa

It has been an amazing first few months in the House of Commons.

It has been an amazing first few months in the House of Commons.

I am extremely thankful to the people of Thunder Bay-Superior North for electing me to represent them as their Member of Parliament and I am humbled to serve the Prime Minister as Minister of Status of Women in our historic gender balanced cabinet.

Our government has been working hard to bring much needed change to Ottawa.

We’ve introduced tax breaks for families, welcomed 25,000 Syrian refugees, taken meaningful action to combat climate change and launched an inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

As we move forward with our plan for real change, I continue to advocate for things that we desperately need in Northern Ontario, like investments in infrastructure, affordable housing and good jobs close to home.

Since I’ve been elected, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting communities across our riding from Terrace Bay to Marathon, and I look forward to continuing my visits across the north shore in the coming weeks and months.

I am also proud to welcome new investments in forestry for the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg First Nation and investments to drive economic development and attract tourism in Nipigon.

Since December, I’ve had the tremendous honour of meeting with families, survivors and loved ones as part of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls pre-inquiry consultation meetings along with Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Carolyn Bennett and Minister of Justice, Jody Wilson-Raybould, as we take action on the ongoing tragedy of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

In the coming months, I will be working with Canadians, stakeholders and grassroots organizations to develop a federal gender based violence strategy to end gender-based violence.

I am always happy to hear from constituents! You can get in touch by calling our constituency office at 807-766-2090, or visiting at 705 Red River Road in Thunder Bay.
