Well our Thunder Bay-Superior Northerners campaign was an incredible success. I want to thank everyone who took the time to make a nomination, share their stories and help celebrate the amazing 36 recipients.

When Canadian Heritage Minister Melanie Joly first announced that Members of Parliament would be able to share special Sesquicentennial Pins made from the roof of our Parliament Building to celebrate Canada 150 in our communities, I knew that I wanted them to go to unsung heroes who are making a difference in our region every day.

While I am lucky enough to be your Member of Parliament during this incredible time in our history, the Thunder Bay-Superior Northerners initiative was entirely community driven, from the nomination process to the selection committee. Your kindness, your compassion and your generosity make our region a better place.

We celebrated with the recipients, their friends and families last month with more than 100 people! I was honoured to be able to give them this special piece of history for their varied contributions in our community, from women's rights advocacy to filmmaking and everything in between.
