As the NHL lockout continues, why not take some time to look at some very positive things about sports in our community.
Congratulations to those involved in the Miles with the Giant marathon. More than 950 participants this year means it was another success.
Time to thank all of those who volunteer their time to make high school sports run in our community. Also, to all the other volunteers of organized fall and winter sports.
And, a special thanks goes out this time of year to the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. It is an organization that ensures the historical record of all those who excel in athletic endeavors is maintained and recognized.
September is Hall of Fame induction month. Honoured this year as athletes were former NHL player Mike Busniuk and world class water-skier Terri Gibbons.
In the builder's category, Alex Dampier of Nipigon and Bill Selman of Fort Frances were selected for their contributions to hockey, and Dick Henderson of Thunder Bay for his dedication to curling.
In the team category, the rowing pair of Barb Kukko and Helen Flemming entered the hall.
The Hall of Fame is a great place to visit, and learn about this area's rich sports heritage.
