It's now just past the halfway point of the long Major League Baseball season, and also the much shorter Northwoods League season for the Border Cats.
The Cats have struggled, logging a 13-22 first half ledger. But the good thing about the Northwoods League is that everything starts fresh in the second half.
They still have more than a month left to try to find their way back to the top of the North division. Once again this season fan support has been an issue. Hopefully as the warmer weather starts to take hold in the city more fans will start coming out to Port Arthur Stadium.
In the bigs, the early season predictions of the Blue Jays winning their division haven't rang true. Certainly they have had problems with the lengthy injury suffered by shortstop Jose Reyes.
The multi-million dollar pitching rotation anchored by knuckleballer R. A. Dickey has had its moments, but not consistent. As summer winds on, the Jays are going to have to crank it up a bit to make it into the postseason.
Another popular pre-season prediction was for the Washington Nationals. They are still very much in the playoff picture, but will need to make a big push to catch up to the Atlanta Braves in the National East.
The great thing about baseball, things change each day.
