Labour disruption could do serious damage to NHL

Fall is just around the corner, and our thoughts are starting to move toward hockey.

Let's hope there is a new NHL season. With league owners and players association far apart on a new deal, things aren't looking that good.

Aside from what the issues are, this is a slippery slope both parties are walking right now. After the last work stoppage resulted in the cancelling of an entire season and playoffs, fans have a reason to feel gun-shy about this.

When that damaging year off was taken, at least the NHL had the emergence of Sidney Crosby to focus on and build the game back up. It has been successful. The question now is, could it do so again?  There’s no Crosby-like presence on the horizon this time around.

I fear a lengthy work stoppage, could cause significant damage to the NHL this time, and it may take many years, or perhaps can never be fully-repaired.

Speaking just as a fan, get a deal done and let's have hockey.
