Major League Baseball is expanding the use of instant replay on some plays for this season.

Each manager will have the ability to challenge one call per game, but if they win the challenge they will get another.

In addition, the umpire crew chief will be able to call a review past the seventh inning. There are plays that will not be subject to challenges, such as balls and strikes, and obstruction and interference calls.

The commissioner says this puts baseball on the same footing as the other major pro sports, and doesn't believe it will add significantly to the time of a game.

The owners, managers and players are all on board with this, and its likely the fans will be as well.

I wasn't a fan of using instant replay several years ago, but the quality of the technology has improved so much that denying the use of it just didn't seem in the best interests of the game.

We can all think of historic calls that could have changed with the use of instant replay.

At least now, most of those questionable calls and the ensuing arguments will no longer be necessary.

It will be interesting to see how the use of instant replay plays out in the 2014 season.
