New manager’s collegiate connections a boost for Cats

There is no doubt that Danny Benedetti has his work cut out after being hired as the Border Cats new manager. He takes over a team that struggled to a 23 and 49 record, which came on the heels of another tough season.

There is no doubt that Danny Benedetti has his work cut out after being hired as the Border Cats new manager.

He takes over a team that struggled to a 23 and 49 record, which came on the heels of another tough season. But, Benedetti knows Thunder Bay, as a catcher on the Border Cats championship team of 2008.

He knows what playing in the Northwoods League is like and what it takes to win.

The 28-year old is an assistant coach at New York City's St. John's University, after spending some time in a similar capacity at Long Beach State.  His connections in the U.S collegiate ranks will be beneficial as he tries to recruit players to come here.

He also can clearly explain to any potential recruit, what it’s like to play for the Border Cats fans in Port Arthur Stadium and what it's like to live here during the summer.

I think this is a good choice for manager, and look forward to watching Danny Benedetti bring back a  more competitive team in the league next summer.

That would also likely bring out more fans to the park, and that certainly would be a big improvement.
