It is Stanley Cup playoff time, and that means it’s time to once again wade into the unknown and make first-round predictions.
After his sterling performance in the Olympics, this could be the year for Carey Price. But, after missing the Olympics, there is also little doubt Steven Stamkos wants to salvage his season with a great post-season run.
I like Montreal over the Lightning, but it could go the distance.
On paper, Sidney Crosby and the Penguins should have no trouble with Columbus. I take the Penguins in six.
An original-six matchup in the opening round pits Boston against Detroit. The Bruins depth will be too tough for the Wings to handle, so I take Boston in six.
The other opening pairing in the East is the Rangers against the Flyers. It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Marc Staal, but I think the Rangers will advance in a tough, seven-game series.
In the West, Anaheim should dispatch Dallas in five. The Ducks just have too much fire-power for the Stars to handle.
Patrick Roy has done a great job steering the Colorado Avalanche, and they will get past Minnesota in six.
The champion Blackhawks will get through, and Patrick Sharp and company should end the Blues season in five.
The battle of California will go to Kenora's MIke Richards and the Los Angeles Kings. Look for them to take down San Jose in six.
Enjoy the first round.
