COVID-19 case count drops to 60 active

The active case count is the lowest it's been since Nov. 25.

THUNDER BAY – The District of Thunder Bay is down to 60 active COVID-19 cases.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday announced six new cases, but at the same time said a dozen previously announced cases are now considered resolved.

It leaves the district with its lowest number of active cases since Nov. 25, when there were 49. The district’s most recent surge peaked on Dec. 6, when there were 137.

The health unit says one additional patient has been admitted to hospital.

On Wednesday there were two people hospitalized with COVID-19, with one in the intensive care unit.

To date in 2021 there have been 3,211 COVID-19 cases. There have been 47 deaths associated with COVID-19 this year to date.

Of the new cases, four live in Thunder Bay and surrounding area, with two residing in district communities.

Two of the cases are related to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, with three of unknown origin and one is still pending.
