THUNDER BAY – Forty people remain hospitalized with COVID-19 in hospitals situated in the District of Thunder Bay.

Four of those people are in the intensive care unit, though the numbers may be a couple of days old based on reporting from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. That’s two more in hospital than reported on Monday, and one more person in an intensive care unit.

The health unit on Wednesday announced 108 new cases, bringing the active confirmed total case count down to 307, eight fewer than reported on Monday. However, the health unit says since Jan. 1, testing numbers are vastly under-reporting the true number of cases, with PCR testing limited to vulnerable populations.

There have been 11,870 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the district since the pandemic began, including 7,606 this year.
