THUNDER BAY -- COVID-19 hospitalizations in the District of Thunder Bay are the lowest they've been since mid-April.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Friday announced 39 new confirmed cases of the virus, but said the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 has dipped to 19, five fewer than was reported on Wednesday.
That's the lowest number of hospitalizations since the health unit reported 16 on April 19.
The 39 new cases, a number the health unit cautions is likely well below the actual total because of a lack of testing, brings the number of confirmed cases in the district since the pandemic began to 12,563, 8,299 of which have been diagnosed in 2022.
There were no new deaths reported and there are now 114 known active cases, the fewest since April 4, when there were 108.
