District's ICU COVID count grows, overall hospitalizations down

THUNDER BAY – There are eight fewer people in hospital associated with COVID-19, but two more people in intensive care.

According to figures released on Monday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, there are at present 49 cases in hospital, down from 57 on Friday, but 10 people in the ICU is up from eight at the end of last week.

The health unit also announced 146 new cases on Monday, though case counts are no longer considered to be accurate, as only people in certain settings are eligible for PCR tests.

One-hundred-and-eighty previously announced cases are considered to be resolved, leaving 283 known active cases in the District of Thunder Bay.

There have been 7,284 cases announced since the pandemic began, 3,020 of them since Jan.1, 41.4 per cent of the total case load.

Of those, 6,926 cases are considered to be resolved. There have been 75 deaths associated with COVID-19, five of them in 2022.
