It was a record-setting vaccination week

Nearly 17,000 doses were given out last week in the District of Thunder Bay.

THUNDER BAY – It was a record-setting week for vaccinations in the District of Thunder Bay.

A total of 16,687 doses were administered during the week that ended on July 10, a 46 per cent jump over the previous week.

There were 1,795 first doses given out and 15,072 second doses, bringing the total percentage of those 12 and older having had a first shot to 77.4 per cent and those with a second shot across the 50 per cent mark, to 52.6 per cent.

Since the vaccination program began, 185,743 vaccines have been administered in the District of Thunder Bay, including 111,096 first doses and 74,647 second doses.

The past week also marked a milestone for the 50 to 59 age category, who hit 80 per cent with a first vaccine, joining the 80-plus group (88.2 per cent), the 70 to 79 group, which hit 90 per cent (90.3 per cent, and the 60 to 69 category (86.7 per cent).

The 12 to 17 age category remains the lowest vaccinated, at 65.8 per cent, but a fifth of all people in the age group have now been double vaccinated, nearly double the rate reported the week before. They were also the last group made eligible for vaccines.
