THUNDER BAY – The availability of fourth doses to certain groups appears to have helped boost vaccination numbers in the District of Thunder Bay last week.

Although the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has not yet listed fourth-dose numbers on its vaccination dashboard, it, along with its partners, distributed 2,431 COVID-19 vaccinations last week, more than double the 1,163 it had given out the previous week.

The province on April 6 announced it was expanding fourth-dose eligibility to anyone over 60, as well as First Nation, Inuit and Metis people, and those non-Indigenous household members.

Just 26 people residing in the district sought out a first dose last week, while 304 people were administered their third vaccination dose in the week ending on April 16.

The remainder were second and fourth doses.

A total of 79,216 people have had a third dose in the District of Thunder Bay, with 133,168 people having had at least one vaccination administered.
