THUNDER BAY – Half of all five- to 11-year-olds in the District of Thunder Bay have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The age group, the last to get approval for vaccinations, stood at 50.1 per cent as of Jan. 8. But that just 1.6 percentage points higher than a week earlier.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit also announced it had crossed the 300,000 vaccination threshold, with 133,128 people receiving at least one dose and 48,586 people having had three doses, including 11,763 in the seven-day period ending this past Saturday.
A total of 300,505 doses have been handed out since the vaccination program began a year ago.
An additional 396 people received their first dose of the vaccine last week, bringing the overall total to 133,128. A further 271 people received a second dose. There are approximately 31,198 people who have yet to receive a second dose in the five and older population.
About 16,861 people remain not vaccinated in a population of 149,989 people five and older in the District of Thunder Bay, with 84.2 per cent of the population 12 and older considered double dosed.
