THUNDER BAY -- It appears students will return to in-person learning on time.
According to multiple media sources, including the Toronto Star and CTV News, Premier Doug Ford's government has given the go-ahead to get students and education staff back to the classroom on Jan. 17, following a two-week period of on-line learning following the Christmas break.
The province initially halted classroom learning over fears of rising COVID-19 cases in Ontario and the highly transmissible Omicron variant.
According to the Star's Queen's Park bureau chief, Robert Benzie, public health officials have signed off on the decision.
Late last year the province dictated that masks would be mandatory for students of all ages, while promising to ship 3,000 more HEPA filters to school boards across Ontario.
