THUNDER BAY -- According to a report in the Toronto Sun, the Ontario government is expected to announce on Thursday that students will not return to the classroom until Wednesday.

Students and teachers in Thunder Bay were scheduled to go back to class on Monday.

The Sun reports the province will send an additional 3,000 HEPA air filtration units to school boards, on top of the 70,000 already rolled out, and will provide N95 masks to staff.

The new regulations will also cut capacity at arenas and theatres to 50 per cent, or a maximum of 1,000, whichever is lower, a move that will affect both the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, scheduled for Thunder Bay in late January, and the Lakehead Thunderwolves, should the restrictions remain in place late into January. The OUA has paused all athletic events until Jan. 24, while the Scotties is set to begin at Fort William Gardens on Jan. 28.
