Thunder Bay hits 150,000-vaccination mark

Nearly 50,000 people have been double vaccinated in Thunder Bay, including more than 13,000 people last week.

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay crossed another vaccination milestone last week, delivering its 150,000th shot.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Tuesday unveiled its most recent vaccination numbers, stating 15,324 vaccines were given out on the week ending on June 26, bringing the district’s total number of vaccinations to 157,324.

As of Saturday, 75.5 per cent of those 12 and older have been vaccinated, which works out to 66.6 per cent of the overall population.

A total of 30.4 per cent of the population 12 and older have been double vaccinated, an increase of more than four percentage points from the week prior. Of the 15,324 vaccines given out last week, 13,119 were second doses.

There are now 48,992 people in the district who have had both of their shots.

The province on Monday opened up second vaccines to anyone 18 and older.

Just 2,144 people received first doses, the lowest figure since the health unit began publicly releasing weekly vaccination numbers. The health unit on Monday began offering walk-up first-shot appointments to anyone 12 and older at its CLE clinic.
