Thunder Bay up to 22 active COVID-19 cases

Case count the highest in the District of Thunder Bay since June 19.

THUNDER BAY -- The District of Thunder Bay is at it's highest active COVID-19 case count since mid-June. 

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday announced seven new cases, five in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas and one each in district and First Nations communities, bringing the active count to 22. 

That's the most since there were 23 active cases on June 19. 

Five of the new cases are considered close contact. One is related to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario and one is of unknown exposure. 

Since the pandemic began, there have been 3,434 cases in the the health unit's catchment area, 2,849 of which have been reported in 2021. Of the overall case count, 3,350 are considered to be resolved, with 64 deaths related to COVID-19, none since June 16.
