THUNDER BAY – Two fewer Thunder Bay District residents remain in hospital with COVID-19, and the known active case count dropped slightly on Thursday.
The health unit announced 78 new cases of COVID-19, with 84-previously announced cases now considered to be resolved.
Because molecular testing is restricted to vulnerable and high-risk populations, the health unit advises that case counts are likely under-reporting the true spread of the virus in the community.
Of the new cases, 25 are considered close contact of some sort, one is from travel outside the region, 12 are of unknown origin and 40 are still pending.
Since the pandemic began there have been 5,995 cases, with 5,598 considered to be resolved. There are at present 324 known active cases and there have been 73 deaths associated with COVID-19. Year-to-date there have been 1,731 cases announced.
