Camp Day connects coffees with campfires

The Foundation has supported over 325,000 youth in its history.

THUNDER BAY— Opportunities were served alongside the coffees on Tim Hortons' Camp Day.

On Wednesday, community members gathered at Tim Hortons locations across the region to raise funds for its camp program.

The annual event raises money on the same day each year through coffee and donut sales in addition to donations, allowing them to send children away to one of six Tim Hortons foundation camps across the country for 10 days, said a media release.

“When the franchisee approached me, I was more than excited to come and participate,” said counsellor Brian Hamilton. “Happy to be here, happy to support the youth programs that Tim Hortons does.”

"With every coffee poured, we are helping youth from underserved communities discover their potential and build brighter futures. That's the true power of Camp Day, and it's something I'm so proud to be part of," said Tim Hortons camp counsellor, Caroline Barham.

Robert Vis, owner of the Tim Hortons on Memorial said last year that his Tim Hortons location raised over $6,800 and that he has a goal of $7000 for this year.

“We are basically using our entire building and parking lot,” he said.

With the fundraising goal higher than the previous year, the Memorial location had a dedicated team of windshield washers at the drive through, a prize wheel and a dunk tank to ensure that kids go to camp, he said.

“We have got a spin the wheel inside, we are selling some of our Camp Day t-shirts. We have a nice lovely dunk tank which councillor Brian Hamilton will be in later,” he said.

The program provides children with opportunities they would not other wise have, said Charlotte Eillson, general manager.

“They get to do a whole bunch of camp things, kayak, learn life skills and just do the fun things that kids are meant to do at camp,” she said.
