On July 29, 2024 Markku Klemola passed away after a hard battle with multiple myeloma.
Markku was a loving family man and a skilled carpenter, but his passion in life really came true as an outdoorsman.
Fishing, hunting, and trapping in the wilderness of Northwestern Ontario around his home, outside Thunder Bay was where he was happiest.
In summer and winter, he went into the bush, sometimes alone for days at a time, and he did this until he was almost 80 years old.
He was able to build a shelter, look for food and warmth, and always return home. He was like no one I've ever known.
I occasionally went out with him and enjoyed our fishing (and when I was younger) drinking experiences, but I wasn't nearly as tough as he was.
He will be sadly missed by daughter Kris McBride (Danny), granddaughters Chelsea (Tyson) and Kristiina (Stuart), grandson Chris Whitley and great grandchildren Lyla and James Quayle, Mason and Miia Whitley.
His predecessors are his first wife (Kris's mother) Inkeri Klemola, daughters Rita Klemola, Marja Whitley (Colin) and grandson Michael Whitley.
