Intent of the process

There are three positions to be staffed: 1 indeterminate in Kenora (Northern Ontario) English essential, 1 indeterminate in Thunder Bay (Northern Ontario) bilingual imperative (BBB/BBB) and 1 indeterminate in Timmins (Northern Ontario) bilingual imperative (BBB/BBB). A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar term and/or permanent positions.

Information you must provide

Your résumé.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education :

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the work to be performed or an acceptable* combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.

*acceptable would be a minimum of seven years combined education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience working as part of a team;

Experience providing program related advice to stakeholders and proponents in the public and/or private sectors.

Experience negotiating partnerships and/or collaborative initiatives involving various organizations, businesses, community stakeholders and/or levels of governments.

Experience in providing strategic advice to Senior Management.

Experience in delivery and management of projects.
If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Professional accounting designation from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA).

Professional designation in Economic Development (e.g.: Ec.D., CEcD)

Graduate level degree in economics, business or economic development.

Degree equivalency

Experience working with Indigenous or Francophone communities or organizations on economic development initiatives;

Experience assisting small and medium-sized enterprises to improve operations, including reviewing financial statements and evaluating financial sustainability.

Experience working on clean technology initiatives, including alternative energies.

Experience working directly on a specific industry sector and its stakeholder community. Sectors of interest include forestry or mining.

Knowledge of concepts and practices related to community economic development;
Knowledge of challenges for economic development in Northern Ontario;
Knowledge of financial management and accounting principles in the private and/or public sector.
Knowledge of innovation as a means to foster economic growth.

Abilities :

Ability to apply due diligence practices and techniques for assessing complex business plans and/or funding applications;
Ability to undertake strategic analysis and synthesize information.
Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, both internally and externally, including government stakeholders, to jointly address a challenge and/or an opportunity.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations to clients or partners;
Ability to undertake strategic planning;
Ability to communicate effectively orally;
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
