Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

 Post secondary degree or diploma from recognized university or college preferred.
 Experience and interest in teaching young children – ages 8 – 12 years.
 Current Standard First Aid & Level C CPR certificate with St. John Ambulance or willingness to obtain. 
 Interested in working in a volunteer based, not for profit organization.
 Excellent computer skills.
 Excellent organizational skills.
 Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
 Demonstrated team player.
 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

 Delivery of the Grade 3 “We Can Help” and the Grade 6 “Lifesaver” School Based Safety Education Programs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

Facilitate the day to day delivery of School Based Safety Education Programs including, but not limited to:

1. Taking responsibility for the progress of a class of primary age pupils and motivating them with an enthusiastic and imaginative full day interactive presentation.
2. Keeping up to date with changes and developments in First Aid Standards.
3. Providing input into the annual updating of school program take home workbooks for students.
4. Filling out course reports for each class and ensuring a timely return to the St. John Ambulance office.
5. Receiving evaluation forms from classroom teachers and forwarding to the First Aid and School Program Coordinator.
6. Instruct one to three school program classes per week.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT 

 General school environment. School classrooms. Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 2:30/2:45 p.m.
 Access to vehicle. Driver’s license.
