Job Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field.
Experience working in a not-for-profit environment.
Knowledge of Fund Development principles and practices
Previous administrative experience
Demonstrated experience coordinating special events, foundation and corporate sponsorship campaigns & proposal writing.
Strong organizational and planning skills and ability to manage several projects concurrently and work under the pressure of tight deadlines.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skill in developing and maintaining positive relationships with donors, instructors and volunteers. Must be comfortable with public speaking.
Ability to converse with the media and articulate news about each event
Initiative, problem solving skills, and sound judgment.
Experience in developing budgets for Fund Development projects and working within the established budget.
Excellent computer skills. Proficient in MS Office 2010; Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and Power Point. Training will be provided on the St. John Ambulance database “Alliance”
Ability to prioritize and schedule multiple tasks and respond positively to changing priorities
Demonstrated team player
Current first aid and AED certificate or the willingness to obtain
Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Increase the non-training/non-product sales revenue base by the development and implementation of a yearly Fund Development plan
Develop new fundraisers in order to increase revenue
Grant and proposal writing
Coordinate the Branch “Spring Into Summer” trailer draw, Camp 911 and the Operation Red Nose Campaign, fulfilling all Coordinator & Sponsorship responsibilities for each campaign
Implement an SJA marketing plan for each campaign/fundraiser
Develop working relationships with corporate clients and service clubs -Public Speaking
Develop working relationships with all media, taking on the role of Branch spokesperson for all fundraising events. Must be comfortable being interviewed for radio, TV, Around Town etc.
Proficient in Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
Achieve fundraising budget targets
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Develop a Fund Development Committee, call meetings, take minutes and distribute to members
Develop a Fund Development plan and annual financial goal in consultation with Executive Director in order to increase annual revenue
Plan, organize, and manage Fund Development special activities and campaigns
Ensure contingency plans are in place to ensure fundraising/donation targets are met
Ensure accurate tracking of lottery fundraising initiatives; work with City to ensure requirements are met
Solicit product donations to support special events.
Work in conjunction with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and train volunteers to assist with the implementation of Fund Development special events
Coordinate SJA United Way grant submission
Responsible for fund development directly with corporate, service clubs and associations, Foundations, and individuals. Maintain current awareness of available funding sources. Write grant proposals at request of Executive Director
Responsible for corporate sponsorship and ensuring that requests for donations for services delivered in the community (MFR, School Programs, ORN) are solicited and processed
Maintain current donor database
Ensure that all donors receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition as well as income tax receipts in accordance with relevant legislative requirements
Working with the Sales & Marketing Coordinator, develop and implement communication strategies to increase awareness of fundraising campaigns. Activities to include, but not limited to; developing promotional material for advertising, newsletter submissions on behalf of Branch, regular submissions to community media outlets with respect to fundraising initiatives
Assist the Volunteer Coordinator plan and implement the any volunteer appreciation events and the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening by ensuring all sponsors are invited and acknowledged
General administrative duties include: customer/sponsor relations, maintenance of client records
Process client registrations and payments as requested by ED
All other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
“Spring Into Summer” Campaign, Camp 911 Director and Counselors, and ORN fundraising committee supervisory responsibilities
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Meeting budget projections
Handling of cash
Credit and debit card transactions
EXTENT OF PUBLIC CONTACT
Extensive contact with the public including volunteers, media, corporations, service clubs, sponsors and funding organizations

Some physical effort required. (E.g. carrying boxes and equipment up to 50lbs.)
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT
Work within the community. Must be flexible. Evening and weekend work is necessary throughout the year and will be scheduled in advance. Night shift on alternate weekends from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 - 5:00 a.m. is mandatory during the ORN campaign.
General office environment
Must have a vehicle and a valid Driver’s license
35 hours per week with the exception of ORN
