THUNDER BAY — Loosen your belts and grab your napkins, the United Way's annual burger-based fundraiser will be back bigger than ever — but under a new banner.
The Novemburger campaign has been rebranded the Ultimate Burger Battle.
Officials unveiled the new name and their big plans for this year's campaign at Sleeping Giant Brew co on May 30.
“It's obviously grown quite immensely, this past year we had over forty restaurant partners, over 45 thousand Novemburgers sold and then over $130,000 raised,” said Albert Brulé, CEO of United Way of Thunder Bay.
While the name change may take some time to get used to, the heart and soul of the event will always be about giving back to the community, said Brulé.
The campaign formerly known as November started in the city in 2019, and is the brainchild of Thunder Bay's Erika Mikkola.
“Last year obviously we had nine other United Ways across Canada join us for the event, and we are really hoping to expand on the success of that and get more United Ways involved,” she said.
The name change is part of the campaign's national expansion. In some locations around the country the Ultimate Burger Battle will be running in months other than November.
In Thunder Bay, however, the event is sticking to its roots and the 2025 Ultimate Burger Battle will run Nov. 1 to 30.
United Way Thunder Bay is also proud to announce new partners, items and entertainment for this year's event.
