Kingsway Park/Hyde Park Public School principal Darren Lentz has won a prestigious national award.
The Lakehead District Public School Board announced Tuesday that Lentz has been named one of Canada's outstanding principals of 2017.
He joins 39 other principals across the country honoured by The Learning Partnership, a charitable organization that describes itself as being "dedicated to building stakeholder partnerships to support, promote and advance publicly funded education in Canada."
Ian MacRae, Director of Education for the school board, said Lentz's award is well-deserved, and "a testament to his innovation, leadership and creativity in finding solutions and opportunities within the school community that he serves."
Lentz will receive the award at a ceremony on February 28 in Toronto.
In a statement, he also gave credit to his vice-principal and to the staff at both schools, and to the "engaged and involved parents" of the students.
