To the editor:
As I sat in the comfort of my living room and listened to the excellent Heart and Stroke Foundation presentation on the importance of defibrillators placed in more places, I noticed that councillors and staff, as well as the seated audience, listened intently and were totally convinced that defibrillators do save lives if they are immediately available in large assemblies of people.
But I don’t think I?heard the council chambers, where many citizens are seated, not to mention our precious councillors, mayor and staff of city hall, have a defibrillator at their disposal.
It is hoped that the purchase of a defibrillator is affordable and can be made immediately. Even though there is one in the lobby of city hall, it is out of immediate reach of the ususally crowded assembly in council chambers.
Let’s support the Heart and Stroke Foundation to the fullest as their efforts are to save lives.
I personally feel strongly that Victoriaville Mall security staff should also have one in readiness. There are numerous offices for city staff, as well as the commercial outlets for patrons. Can we afford this??
Dorothy Chambers,
Thunder BayCrime out of control
To the editor:
So I’ve been reading quite a bit in the news lately and I’d just like to point out how bad the crime is getting in Thunder Bay.
It’s one thing after another, whether it be someone’s house getting broken into, or someone getting murdered. I can think back 10 years and there wasn’t nearly as much crime.
I’m 19 years old and I’m afraid to be outside past a certain time. How sad is that? I remember being a kid playing outside until dark when my parents forced me to come in the house, now I wouldn’t dream of being outside past 10 p.m. in my neighborhood.
Something needs to be done to fix all of these problems that are arising in this town, before something even worse happens. My heart goes out to all the people who have had these terrible things happen to them. I couldn’t imagine something like that happening to my family.
I think it’s utterly inexcusable that nothing has been done to at least try and bring the crime down in this town. There is no reason at all why these things keep happening. I would like to think other people would agree with me as well.
There aren’t many places around Thunder Bay anymore where you can actually go outside and feel safe. It hurts me to see all these things happening in this beautiful town I call home.
