To the editor:

As students from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University, we, the undersigned, believe it is important to address the media attention our school has received.

We would first like to acknowledge that we do not speak for everyone. We are writing as a small group of students who have decided to contribute to the conversation at-large, respectful of those who have chosen not to speak publicly.

Nonetheless, we recognize that this is a conversation which must take place, not in spite of the discomfort it may cause, but by virtue of it. It is this discomfort which must guide our efforts moving forward. When we engage openly and honestly in this dialogue, we show respect for the relationships and values that have grounded this institution since its inception only five years ago.

We attend this law school because we believe in the vision upon which it was founded and the principles which it set out to serve. It was always understood that such an important journey would not be without its share of obstacles. But we do not hesitate in the face of adversity. Rather we strive to face it head-on. This is the commitment we have made. This is the commitment we will continue to uphold well beyond our time as students here at Bora Laskin.

Sincerely,

Justis Danto-Clancy,
Ryan Matson,
Claire McCann,
Daniel G. Cox
