To be the editor:

I recently became aware of our only movie theatre in town applying for a liquor licence and I'm disgusted. I can not believe this is necessary or safe.

As a teenager, this was a place to meet and watch movies, but now it’s going to be basically a bar showing movies.

I would think the majority of patrons are under 19 and those that are of drinking age can surely sit through a movie without alcohol.

Another issue is the darkness in the theater and although the alcohol may not have been purchased by a minor, who’s stopping or regulating the drinking.

My other concern is how are these moviegoers getting home? I highly doubt cabs will be called or designated drivers will be assigned.

I see no positive to this idea other than the mighty dollar.

I also forgot to mention paying good money to sit in a theatre with a few loud obnoxious drunks.

Nobody wants to be around people who smoke, but why is being around people who drink acceptable! This whole idea is fueled by money and I’ll be spending mine elsewhere!
