THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced 10 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday, reporting new daily case counts in the double digits for the fourth consecutive day.

That left the number of active cases in the district at 103, an increase of 2 from Saturday.

All 10 cases involve individuals in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas, which includes Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing, Gillies, Shuniah, Conmee, O'Connor, and some unorganized territories

None were reported to be associated with an ongoing outbreak at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home, which reported the death of a 13th resident earlier Sunday.

Six of the new cases are considered a result of close contact with an existing case, while an exposure category for the remaining four was listed as "pending."

Episode dates for the cases ranged from Dec. 13 to 18.

There were no individuals hospitalized with the virus as of Sunday, the health unit reported.

The Thunder Bay District has now seen a cumulative total of 503 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived here in March. Along with the 103 active cases, another 385 were considered resolved, while the virus has claimed the life of 15 residents.
