Storm leaves 10,000 without power

Ten thousand Hydro One customers in the area around Thunder Bay lost power in Friday night's storm. The company has committed to restoring it on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the latest.

THUNDER BAY -- Additional Hydro One crews have been called in to restore power to over 10,000 custormers across Northwestern Ontario who experienced outages overnight as the winter's first storm landed on region. 

A release issued early Saturday morning expressed road closures and weather conditions continue to be an issue for restoration, expressing there have been 38 incidents. Those are mostly related to trees and ice. 

As of 3 a.m., the Thunder Bay area accounted for 6,063 of those customers, including over 2,000 in the Dawson Road area, 1,900 in rural areas east of the city and 700 in Kakabeka Falls. 

In Greenstone, 3,412 customers are without power and blackouts extend to Terrace Bay on Lake Superior's north shore. 

Hydro One estimates the latest time of power restoration for those customers to be 6 p.m. on Saturday. 

The company issued a reminder to members of the public tto always stay clear of downed power lines or equipment.
