THUNDER BAY — A young resident of the city tragically perished late Saturday night in a collision on Highway 102.

Ontario Provincial Police revealed Monday that a 17-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The individual's identity is being withheld out of respect for the privacy of the family.

In a news release Sunday, OPP said the victim was the driver of a pickup truck involved in a collision with a transport truck at 11:50 pm near the Strawberry Creek bridge.

A passenger in the pickup was injured and taken to hospital.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
