THUNDER BAY — The city is now playing host to about 180 people from Bearskin Lake First Nation.

The last group of aproximately 30 evacuees arrived in Thunder Bay on Tuesday.

Bearskin Lake, 600 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, has been under a state of emergency since Nov. 9 because of flooding caused by an ice jam on the Severn River.

Community members requiring shelter were airlifted to Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay starting last week.

The evacuees taken to Thunder Bay are staying in hotel rooms.

The city is providing services and arranging for activities for them.

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio said it's not clear yet how long the visitors will be away from their homes, but an update may be available on Wednesday.

Some community members remain at Bearskin Lake to protect and monitor key infrastructure.
