22 school bus runs cancelled in Thunder Bay area

A driver shortage affects 22 routes serving eleven schools.

THUNDER BAY —  The third week of the new school year is starting with more than 20 bus runs cancelled in the Thunder Bay area.

It's because of the ongoing lack of drivers.

According to information posted by Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay, 22 runs were scrubbed as of Monday morning.

The following bus routes were affected:

 

NORTH 55 servicing St. Bernard a.m. and p.m., École Catholique Franco-Supérieur a.m. and p.m. cancelled for Monday, Sept. 20 due to no driver available.

NORTH 74 servicing St. Ignatius a.m. to Mapleward and Dawson Transfer Point*, Our Lady Of Charity a.m. and p.m., École Secondaire Catholique De La Verendrye p.m. cancelled for Monday, Sept. 20 due to no driver available. (*St Ignatius students can still board their transfer bus at the a.m. transfer point)

SOUTH 15 servicing Nor'wester View a.m. and p.m., Westmount a.m. and p.m. cancelled Monday, Sept. 20 through Friday, Sept. 25 due to no driver available.

SOUTH 17 servicing Nor'wester View a.m. and p.m., Westgate a.m. and p.m. cancelled Monday, Sept. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 21 due to no driver available.

SOUTH 18 servicing Nor'wester View a.m. and p.m., Westgate p.m. cancelled Monday, Sept. 20 due to no driver available.

SOUTH 42 servicing St. Patrick a.m. and p.m., Pope John Paul II a.m., St. Ann a.m. and p.m. cancelled Monday, Sept. 20 due to no driver available.

SOUTH 71 servicing St Thomas a.m. and p.m., Pope John Paul II p.m. cancelled UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE due to no driver available.

 

Although local bus operators were only seven drivers short on Monday, the drivers work on multiple routes.

The current cancellations affect students attending eleven different schools.
