THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports 27 new COVID-19 cases in the City of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding area.
Seven patients are now in hospital, including three in the intensive care unit.
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre reports it currently has 10 admitted COVID-19 positive patients.
A hospital spokesperson explained that the discrepancy in numbers arises from the fact that some of its patients are from outside the jurisdiction of the TBDHU.
The TBDHU 's new case number reflects activity in the District of Thunder Bay over a two-day period, as it did not issue a report on Monday, which was a holiday.
Twenty of the cases are the result of close contact with infected individuals, one is related to travel outside Northwestern Ontario, one has no known exposure source, and three cases are under investigation.
One of the new cases is connected to the ongoing outbreak at the Thunder Bay District Jail, while another is related to the outbreak at Wequedong Lodge.
Twenty previously-diagnosed cases were resolved over the past two days, leaving the number of active cases in the District of Thunder Bay at 159.
Across Ontario, 904 new COVID-19 cases are reported today.
