TORONTO — A Toronto man managed to keep his big secret for the better part of two months.
But now Ginno Torres has stepped forward to accept a cheque for the $35 million he won in the June 22, 2021 Lotto Max draw.
The 29-year-old split the $70 million top prize with a co-winner from B.C.
He said he checked his tickets a few days after the draw at his neighbourhood store, and at first saw a lot of zeros which made him think he had won $35,000.
After he went to another store to re-check the numbers, he realized he had won $35 million.
"My stomach was in knots as I was thinking about what was happening," Torres said.
The recent college graduate is still taking time to figure out what to do with the money.
"I am going to make sure my family is taken care of and I will make some investments to make sure I am well taken care of long into the future," Torres said.
He also plans to share a portion of his new fortune with some charities, and commission some custom-made art from Indigenous artists.
