THUNDER BAY — The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay district fell sharply on Tuesday.
Although the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported 35 new cases, it also disclosed that 78 previous cases had been resolved since Monday.
That leaves the active case count at 403, the lowest number since March 6 when it was 386.
The TBDHU also reported there are five fewer COVID-19 patients from the district receiving treatment in hospital than there were on Monday.
Of the 35 new cases, 33 are in the city or surrounding townships, and two are in district communities.
Fourteen of the new cases are listed as household contact, two are connected to the Walford Retirement Home outbreak, nine are "other close contact," three have no known exposure source, and seven are pending.
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, which also treats patients from outside the TBDHU's coverage area, said Tuesday that it has 45 admitted patients with COVID-19, including nine in the ICU compared with 11 on Monday.
According to TBDHU data, 39 of the 45 patients are from within the TBDHU's service area.
The hospital's occupancy rate is 76 per cent, up slightly from 73 per cent on Monday.
