TERRACE BAY -- Tourist attractions in Terrace Bay and Schreiber received a multi-million-dollar boost Tuesday from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

The Township of Schreiber got $2.15 million for various projects including the construction of the 1,360-square-foot North Shore Express Discovery Centre. The facility will feature a diesel locomotive and museum to highlight the community's historical ties to the railway industry

Schreiber will also use some of the money for downtown revitalization projects.

The Township of Terrace Bay received $1.5 million to help create a waterfront staging area to promote access to Lake Superior, Slate Islands Provincial Park and the Trans-Canada Water Trail. Improvements will include expanded parking and boat launch areas, construction of a year-round beach pavilion, a gazebo, wind-powered sculptures and a new boardwalk.

Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle made the announcement.
