58-year-old woman dies in Dawson Road crash

Police have confirmed the identity of a woman who died following a massive crash on Dawson Road Wednesday.

THUNDER BAY – A 58-year-old woman is dead following a Dawson Road crash Wednesday afternoon between a SUV and tractor trailer.

Thunder Bay OPP officials responded to a two vehicle collision just before 1 p.m. on Highway 102 between Dog Lake Road and Shirley Road, as a result of the collision Mary Wabasse, 58, of Nibinamik First Nation, succumbed to her injuries.

The other five occupants of the Ford SUV did not sustain life threatening injuries and the driver of the tractor trailer did not sustain any injuries.

Staff Sgt. Jim Graham said a Ford SUV was heading eastbound on Highway 102 when it entered the left-hand lane into the pathway of an oncoming tractor trailer unit.

Graham said the driver of the Ford SUV has been charged with Drive Left of Centre.

The highway was closed for more than five hours Wednesday afternoon, but detours were available.
