THUNDER BAY - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has reported seven new confirmed cases of COVID-19, all involving individuals in the city and surrounding area.

It's the largest single-day jump in cases the district has experienced so far, bringing the total number to 33. The health unit considers 11 of those cases to be resolved. Two are being treated at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, while the remainder are self-isolating at home.

Six of the seven cases resulted from close contact with known cases, rather than travel or community spread, while the health unit is still investigating the cause of the seventh.

The cases include the youngest yet infected in the district, with one individual under 20, and two others in their twenties.

The other individuals are in their 40s and 50s. All are now self-isolating at home.

The health unit has conducted nearly 700 tests so far, with 543 returned negative, 33 positive, and 126 still pending.
