THUNDER BAY – Local radio stations will be using their airwaves Friday to amplify Indigenous voices and learn about Indigenous languages, teachings, and traditions to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The programming runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dougall Media stations Rock 94 and 91-5 CKPR.

The program is supported by the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund in partnership with media outlets across the country.

A Day to Listen first took place on June 30, 2021, following the announcement that the remains of 215 children were buried at the site of the former Kamloops Residential School.

This year’s A Day to Listen programming will focus on four themes: cultural reclamation, language resurgence, art practice, and land-based learning narratives.

The program will be hosted by two JUNO Award-winning songwriters, Celeigh Cardinal and William Prince, and feature a variety of guests from Indigenous communities across the country.
