THUNDER BAY – A sweet success for this year's Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign which saw a record breaking $80,350 raised.
Tim Hortons and Thunder Bay residents raised $80,350 to support and be shared between Toys for Tots Thunder Bay and George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.
“On behalf of our kids and families, the staff and Board of the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre and the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation, thank you Tim Hortons and our local store owners for such a generous gift!” said George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation executive director Cindy Levanto-Kawahara.
“Thank you to all the volunteers that make this Smile Cookie Campaign happen and to those that volunteered their time to put all those smiles on the cookies. It is truly an impressive show of community support, and we couldn’t be more grateful!”
This is the fourth year that the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation has been supported through this campaign and the 12th year for Toys for Tots Thunder Bay, with funds raised going to support specialized children’s care at George Jeffrey and work to ensure children in need receive gifts over the holiday season through Toys for Tots.
“Tim Hortons has been supporting Thunder Bay Professional Firefighter’s Toys for Tots for more than 10 years,” says Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Toys for Tots chair Paul Penna.
“With the effects of COVID-19 hitting our community hard over the past couple of years, more families than ever are now in need. Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign has made a huge impact on filling that gap, and we feel very fortunate to be partners with them once again.”
Local Tim Horton’s owners had set themselves a lofty goal of $80,000 and were absolutely thrilled to have beat it, attributing the success to the generous heart of Thunder Bay.
“I think it’s fantastic, Tim Horton’s locally, across the country, we try to give back as much as we can and the smile cookie program is just one of those programs that have just taken off nationally,” said Tim Hortons owner/representative Brent Prepp.
“It’s unbelievable how the community comes together to purchase the cookies, and also how we have so many volunteers to come out and decorate and make the program such a huge success.”
