A Thunder Bay man is charged with arson in a social housing complex

The accused has been remanded in custody.

THUNDER BAY — An early-September fire in a social housing building in Westfort has now resulted in the arrest of  a Thunder Bay man.

Police have charged the 49-year-old with arson – disregard for human life, in connection with a Sept. 2, incident at Spence Court on Amelia Street West.

A small fire was set in a second-floor hallway of the apartment building which is operated by the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board.

No one was injured.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, the Thunder Bay Police Service identified a suspect and laid the charge on Sept. 14.

The accused was arrested last Thursday, appeared for a bail hearing the next day, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
