A Thunder Bay Transit bus got stuck in a hole

The bus needed to be extricated by a tow truck equipped with a sling

THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay Transit bus needed a lift after it got stuck in a hole at the intersection of Oliver Road and High streets on the weekend.

The mishap happened as the operator was making a right turn from Oliver to High at about 10:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.

A city crew had previously placed pylons and plastic fencing around a portion of pavement right at the curb, to keep traffic away from that area until repairs could be made.

Until Saturday, transit drivers had been able to successfully manoeuvre around the pylons.

A transit spokesperson told TBnewswatch the bus involved in Saturday's incident was outside the pylons when its rear right wheels got hung up.

He said it's not clear whether a different section of pavement had collapsed, as the incident is still under investigation.

Nobody was injured, and the bus wasn't damaged.

Passengers were transferred to another bus soon after.

The disabled bus was lifted out of the hole by a tow truck using a crane and a sling.

A spokesperson for the city could not immediately be reached Monday for comment.
