Abduction suspect faces number of charges

FORT FRANCES – A 37-year-old Brandon, Man. man faces a litany of charges after an alleged abduction of a two-year-old girl following a domestic dispute in Chapple Townwhip, Ont.

Brad Farand is charged with three counts of assault, one count of choking to overcome resistance, one count of mischief, one count of taking a motor vehicle without consent and one count of driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Farand also was charged with a several offences under the Highway Traffic Act, including not wearing his seatbelt.

Ontario Provincial Police say on Saturday night officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute, learning upon arrival the suspect had fled the scene with a two-year-old female.

An Amber Alert was issued and police learned the location of the suspect and recovered the child in good health.

The suspect is being held in custody and will appear in court on Monday via teleconference.
