AbitibiBowater has a new name.
After an internal selection process that saw hundreds of entries from employees, the company has decided to call itself Resolute Forest Products.
The change will take effect on Nov. and will apply to all of the company's lumber and pulp and paper mills across North America.
President Richard Garneau said they are changing the name to Resolute to better reflect the company's determination, strength and resolve to be a profitable, sustainable organization. The identity change was launched in April, with Abitibi-Bowater employees invited to suggest a new name for the company.
An internal selection committee chose Resolute Forest Products from among the 1,400 submissions. There's no word yet on whether it was a local employee who chose the winning name, which brings with it a $30,000 prize.
