Accident closes Highway 17 between Kenora and Dryden

Collision involved multiple tractor trailers, according to eyewitness

MINETAKI, Ont. - A serious collision has closed Highway 17 between Kenora and Dryden.

Emergency services reported an accident near Egli's Sheep Farm in Minnitaki, about 20 kilomtres west of Dryden, around 12:30 p.m. EST Sunday.

According to one eyewitness, the collision appeared to involve three to four tractor trailers.

It's uncertain when the stretch of highway will reopen, said Ontario Provincial Police.

Highway 594 can be used to detour around the collision, but only recommended for passenger vehicles, advised Ontario 511.

The Minnitaki collision was one of several incidents on Highway 17 Sunday. Ontario 511 also reported a collision involving a tractor trailer near Vermillion Bay, a disabled tractor trailer about 46 kilometres west of Ignace, and another collision about four kilometres east of Ignace.
